Who You Are Today Is A Reflection of Who You Were In the Past

Who you are today is a reflection of who you were in the past. This is a theme showed in the story “ Yes Ma’am” by Langston Hughes. This is showed by the Protagonist Mrs. Jones She tells Roger that she was a bad person when she was young. “ I have done things, too, which I would not tell you son-neither tell God, if he didn’t already know.” This tells you that if you are a bad person when your young, that when your older, maybe, you will be nice and understandable of other peoples situations. Mrs. Jones does show this and trys to help Roger become a good person by teaching him from her mistakes.

In the article “Young Offenders Should Meet Victims of There Crime” http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/10644897, It also shows the Theme of who you are today is a reflection of who you were in the past. At the beginning of the article a man says a stranger walked up to him and hit him. The stranger met him two times, the first the man said “He seemed very insincere. He didn't really make eye contact." But on the second visit the man said “He did make eye contact, he was more confident and his apology was sincere.” The offender had done community service. After a couple weeks it shows that a Person can change and be better after hitting a random person on the street.

Both of these story share the theme of who you are today is a reflection of who you were in the past. Thank you Ma’am tells you Mrs.Jones used to steal and do bad things but now she is nice and caring. In the news article it says that he just ran up and punched him but about five weeks later we was a nice and embarrassed person for having to go through it all.I believe that the theme is stated clearly in both of these objects.
